LiquidPower Specialty Products Inc. (LSPI) developed our pioneering technology during the 1970s while part of Conoco, Inc. (which later merged with Phillips to form ConocoPhillips, and spun off in 2012 under Phillips 66). In 1979, we invented and introduced our first commercial drag reducer, a gel-type product, named CDR. The product was the first of its kind and demand for this specialized technology grew rapidly. LSPI continued to invest in drag reduction technology, extending development through two subsequent generations, and achieving in excess of 10-fold performance increase compared to the original CDR product.
In the early 1990s, we embarked on a mission to improve the delivery and handling of drag reducing agents (DRA). The result was a new generation of suspension–based flow improvers introduced under the LiquidPower® brand. This was followed in 1997 with the commercialization of RefinedPower® Flow Improver, another suspension flow improver, for refined product pipeline applications.
In 2008, we again revolutionized the drag reducer market, introducing ExtremePower® Flow Improver for true heavy crude applications. Prior to our commercialization of ExtremePower®, the technology had not been available for heavy crude applications.
LSPI continues to innovate and improve our products, infrastructure, and service to provide the best experience and value for our customers. As our industry has grown and pipelines have increasingly used DRA to achieve their goals, we have scaled up our assets and operations to ensure reliable service and performance.
LSPI was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2014 and is proud of its pioneering heritage. We continue to invest in and improve upon already outstanding technology. With dedicated teams and worldwide reach, LSPI strives to continually produce better, higher performing products to address market needs, while maintaining superior service, reliability and quality.
